Places of Interest in the USA The United States of America is one of the largest countries of the world. It consists of 50 independent states which have a lot to offer to its visitors. Every year millions of people from all over the world come to visit the USA. The reasons can vary, of course. Some come to study English, some to find an interesting job, but the majority of visitors are attracted to its sights. There are lots of places and things to see in the USA, so a week or two wouldn’t be enough to see all places of interest. Besides the USA is quite a remote country for many other world countries and continents. For example, to reach it from Russia takes a whole day on a plane. So, most people, who wish to see the places of interest in the USA, try to spend at least a month there travelling from state to state. And it’s a wise decision, because it’s worth it. One of the main places people want to visit is the capital of the USA, Washington D.C. It’s a small city of mainly political importance and the White House is situated there. Other cities worth visiting are New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Boston, and many others. All the mentioned cities have a lot to offer. For example, New York is the largest city of the country and one can see many skyscrapers in this city. Philadelphia is the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the main sight of the city is the Liberty Bell. Both Las Vegas and Atlantic City are world famous with its numerous casinos and entertainment facilities. The largest and the most prestigious university of America is situated in Boston. It’s Harvard. Los Angeles is the home of Hollywood. Other than that, all tourists of the USA want to see the Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes, and also to swim in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. One of his subjects was called Ali, a man who enjoyed making fun of his ruler. He invented all sorts of tales about the Sultan and his Court, and folk would roar with laughter at his jokes. Indeed, Ali became so well known, that people pointed him out in the street and chuckled. Ali's fun at the Sultan's expense reached the point where the Sultan himself heard about it. Angry and insulted, he ordered the guards to bring the joker before him. "I shall punish him for his cheek", said the Sultan eagerly, as he rubbed his hands, thinking of the good whipping he was about to administer. But when Ali was brought before him, he bowed so low that his forehead scraped the floor. Giving the Sultan no time to open his mouth, Ali said, "Sire! Please let me thank you for granting my dearest wish: to look upon you in person and tell you how greatly I admire your wisdom and handsome figure. I've written a poem about you. May I recite it to you?" Overwhelmed by this stream of words and delighted at Ali's unexpected praise, the Sultan told him to recite his poem. In actual fact, Ali hadn't written a single word, so he had to invent it as he went along, and this he did, loudly comparing the Sultan's splendour to that of the sun, his strength to that of the tempest and his voice to the sound of the wind. Everyone applauded and cheered. Now quite charmed, the Sultan forgot, why he had called Ali before him, and clapped at the end of the poem in his honor. "Well done!", he cried. "You're a fine poet and deserve a reward. Choose one of these saddles as payment for your ability". Ali picked up a donkey's saddle and, thanking the Sultan, he hurried out of the palace with the saddle on his back. When people saw him rush along, they all asked him: "Ali, where are you going with that donkey's saddle on your back?" "I've just recited a poem in honour of the Sultan, and he's given me one of his own robes as reward!" And winking, Ali pointed to the saddle! Places of Interest in Australia Australia is one of the biggest countries in the world. Besides, it’s the only country, which is also a continent. For many other world countries Australia is a remote land to visit, nevertheless, millions of people gladly fly there to see its places of interest. The capital of Australia is Canberra. It’s not as large as Sydney or Melbourne, but it has an important political meaning for the country. All the governmental and parliamentary buildings are situated there. Canberra is also the home of many cultural institutions, such as Australian National University, National Gallery, National Museum, Royal Military College, Australian Institute of Sport and many others. The largest and the most visited city in Australia is Sydney. With the population over 4.6 million people, the city hosts 2.7 million international tourists a year. There is a great number of attractions in Sydney. The most well-known ones are Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, St Mary's Catholic Cathedral, Royal Botanical Gardens, Luna Park, Australian Museum of Natural History and Anthropology, Museum of Contemporary Art and several others. Another large city in Australia is Melbourne. The main sights of the city are the Federation Square, Fawkner Park, Queen Victoria Market, Royal Exhibition Building, Albert Park Lake and many other places. Particularly interesting are the natural attractions of Australia. For example, the country has some species of animals, which can’t be found anywhere else. Among them, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, flightless emus, wombats and many others. So, the Australian Zoo, which is situated in a small town Beerwah, not far from Brisbane, can be another place of interest. Народная сказка Sadko - Садко In the fable of Sadko, a man appearing to be a poor psaltery player, has talents which are neglected by the merchants of the City of Novgorod . However Sadko, was indeed a very talented person. This was the reason that the beautiful Sea princess, Volkhova, daughter of Tsar Morskoi, the King of the Sea, was charmed by Sandko's music and songs. Eventually, the princess Volkhova fell in love with the psaltery player. Princess Volkhova gave Sadko a chance to redeem himself when betting on the incidence of golden fish in Lake Ilmen . Sadko won his wager, which had been his life against the wealth of all merchant ships. He took the ships and asked the townspeople to take care of his wife, Lubava, and set sail. On his journey, Sadko visited Venice , Scandinavia , Egypt , India and many other countries. But, as the ships sailed back to Russia , the wind ceased and the ships could not move. It was that then Sadko realized that because the people had not made proper sacrifices to the Tsar Morskoi, king of the Sea, the ships now stood still. In order to save the sailors Sadko sacrificed himself and jumped into the water. Instantly a brisk breeze filled the sails of the ships and they sailed away towards home. Sadko fell to the bottom of the sea and found himself in the palace of the Tsar Morskoi. The King and Queen of the Sea had heard about Sadko's musical talents and asked him to play and to sing for them. They were overjoyed and decided to make Sadko stay in Sea Tsardom and promised Volkhova to be his bride. But Sadko told Volkhova that he couldn't marry her, as he still loved his wife, Lubava. Upset, but still loving the psaltery player, she helped Sadko to pluck away with the help of a flock of sea-horses which took Sadko back to the shore of Lake Ilmen. Tired form the journey, Volkhova sings a lullaby to Sadko and he falls asleep. Volkhova kisses him quietly and disappears into the mist, thus becoming the river Volkhova which flows from Lake Ilmen to the sea. Sadko's wife, Lubava, who was waiting for her husband all that time, was overjoyed to see her beloved husband again. They lived happily aver after.
